January 1 2011

This will be a great year! I am determined to become healthier and happier. I will blog my journey!

It seems to me that new years resolutions are like Sunday christians and by that I mean that self improvement should be an ongoing challange and not just something to focus on once a week or once a year.

As I reflect over my life, I cannot help but recognize the roll that attitute plays in our story. Laman had the same journey that Nephi did, and yet each of them would retell the story so differently. For Nephi there were trials and tribulations yet he knew in whom he trusted and looked forward to the land of promise. Laman on the other hand wallowed in the misery of the journey, for him it was unbearable and even unnecessary. I want to adopt Nephi's attitude as I reflect. Life has not been easy yet I recongnize that I have been greatly blessed! I haven't always felt thankful so it feels good to be grateful!

A definate habit that I want to make is to read The Book of Mormon with Dominic in it's entirety before he is baptised. We may only get a paragraph in a day but we will succeed!

Also I have got to take better care of myself and set a better example of a healthy life style for Dominic. I still don't feel settled but we are getting closer I think.

Here's to the new year!

FYI: Benefits of Peroxide

This was written by Becky Ramsey of Indiana (a doctor's Wife), and I want to share it with you. She was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she told me:

"I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What does bleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide.

"Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office?
NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. They are wiser and know better!

"Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It is Chlorine, folks! And it was used to kill our troops.

"Peroxide was invented during WWI. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think about this:

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash...

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe down your countertops, or spray it on the counters directly.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of Peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

10. Put half a bottle of peroxide into your bathwater to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.

11. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water.

Sweet Sabbath Day

I was actually able to enjoy Sacrament meeting today! Nic was so well behaved! Then I was enlisted to help in one of the Primary classes, CTR 4 which was the class I taught when Nic was born. Cannot believe that in January he will be in that class! I had forgotten how wiggly they are at that age.

Really enjoying the book A Single Voice by Kristen M. Oaks. It just seems as though I am visiting with a friend...love books like that! It is so inspiring of how to live righteously no matter what the circumstances. In her book, Sis. Oaks quotes Ezra Taft Benson, "When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power."

I have a testimony of the truthfulness of that statement! I think it applies to every aspect of our lives.

In the Beginning...

Well, well, well where to start??? A Happy Family may sound too cheesy but I attempted to start this blog right after Dominics adoption was final.

Here's to New Beginnings! (maybe I have been in YW's too long) Dominic and I have relocated to Logan, Utah. It has been a rocky start, for me anyway but Dominic loves it! I just need to get settled and quit making the quick trips back to Alliance. I am concentrating on all of the reason that I wanted to come here!

The main reason was for, well frankly a new start for us. So much of our life together has been dictated by the circumstances that brought us together. For example, the last time we were in Alliance, dad asked if we wanted to go to Hot Springs with them. My first thought was that I would have to call and get permission to take him out of state. geez...I hope that habit ends soon :)

Also I wanted Dominic to be able to have a great education. That was the main reason for wanting to be in a college town. We love the opportunities that being near the University brings. Dominic is also able to get involved with gymnastics here and he LOVES it!
